Personal Devices on School / District Networks

Recently I created a google survey that asked if educators were allowed to connect personal devices to their district / school networks. Fifty-five educators from around the world, literally, responded. The results were half and half. Thank you to everyone who shared their information.

What are your thoughts? Should personal devices be allowed on school networks?

Our district has wireless access for personal devices. Apparently it was a trial, and now the tech dept. no longer supports the network. But so many people found it useful, mostly teachers, but students as well. The network was basically set up with a private (for domain computers only) and public wireless networks running in parallel. Now the public one has been out of commission, and we’re all hoping it comes back to stay.

Our district does not have wireless access for personal devices. Currently we don’t have the infrastructure in place to carry it out but I am hoping that it will be put in place soon. After having had the opportunity to visit other schools that have wifi I fell like our students may be missing out on some great learning opportunities by having access to this service.
